Fee Calculator

Both venues charge takers a fee of the same shape — rate × contracts × P × (1 − P) — and neither charges makers by default. What differs is the rate. This is the Polymarket vs Kalshi fee calculator: same contracts, same price, each venue's published schedule — and the all-in price that actually decides which platform is cheaper. Fee schedules last reviewed 21 September 2026 (Kalshi, Polymarket, Polymarket US).

How much are Kalshi's fees?

Kalshi's trading fee is a formula, not a flat rate — it scales with how uncertain the contract is. Polymarket charges takers the same way, at a rate that depends on the market's category. Both schedules as read on 21 September 2026 (see FAQ for what can change).

Kalshi trading fees

Charged on taker orders (the side that crosses the spread): 0.07 × contracts × P × (1 − P), rounded up. Resting maker orders are charged 0.0175 × contracts × P × (1 − P) times a per-series multiplier whose default is 0 — so on a standard market a maker pays nothing. There is no settlement fee.

taker 100 @ 50¢ = $1.75 · 100 @ 10¢ = $0.63 · maker, standard market = $0.00

Does Polymarket charge fees?

Takers, yes — makers never. The global platform charges rate × contracts × P × (1 − P), with the rate set by the market's category: 0.04 politics, finance, tech and mentions; 0.05 sports, economics, culture, weather and other; 0.07 crypto; geopolitics is fee-free. Polymarket US is a separate venue at a flat 0.0695 on all markets. On top of the fee you still pay the bid–ask spread.

Politics · Finance · Tech · Mentions — 0.04 — 100 @ 50¢ = $1.00 · 100 @ 10¢ = $0.36

Why both venues' fees peak at 50¢

Both fees track P × (1 − P) — largest when the outcome is a coin flip, near zero when it's practically decided. Kalshi fee per 100 contracts, taker:

Questions people ask

How are Kalshi trading fees calculated?+

Taker trades pay 0.07 × contracts × P × (1 − P), rounded up — $1.75 per 100 contracts at 50¢, and far less near the extremes. Type any trade into the calculator above to see the exact number.

What is Kalshi's taker fee vs maker fee?+

The taker (crossing the spread) pays the full formula fee. A resting maker order pays nothing on a standard market: Kalshi's maker formula is 0.0175 × contracts × P × (1 − P) multiplied by a per-series multiplier whose default is 0, so it only bites on the series listed under Non-Standard Fees in Kalshi's schedule.

Does Polymarket charge trading fees?+

Yes, on takers. Polymarket's global platform charges takers rate × contracts × price × (1 − price), where the rate is 0.04 on politics, finance, tech and mentions, 0.05 on sports, economics, culture, weather and other, and 0.07 on crypto; geopolitics markets are fee-free. Makers are never charged. Polymarket US is a separate venue with its own flat 0.0695 taker rate on all markets. Polymarket itself does not charge to deposit or withdraw USDC, though intermediaries like Coinbase or MoonPay may.

Polymarket vs Kalshi: which has lower fees?+

Polymarket's global rate is lower than Kalshi's on every category except crypto, where both are 0.07 — but the rate is only part of the cost. A 1–2¢ better quote is easily erased by the fee near 50¢, and both venues also charge you the bid–ask spread. Compare the effective, fee-inclusive price — the calculator above does exactly that.

Do Kalshi fees differ by market?+

Yes. A number of series carry their own taker and maker multipliers — some are 0, some are higher than standard. The general formula above covers standard event contracts; Kalshi's published fee schedule is authoritative for the exceptions.

Can these fee figures change?+

Yes, and they do. Each market's own fee parameters are authoritative, and both venues have changed rates during 2026. The figures here were read from the venues' published schedules on 21 September 2026 and every one of them is linked from this page. This is a comparison tool, not financial advice.
